Desert Democrat has a post up about the racists who forced the repainting of a large mural in downtown Prescott. She got it from Wonkette, who got it from the Az Republic. Wonkette was so flabbergasted that she was not capable of adding even her usual gallows humor to the story.
The mural depicts children who attend school in Prescott. The largest figure in the painting is/was a Hispanic child, and according to the artists, the mural includes portraits of actual children who helped with the painting.
I’m pissed that passersby shouted racial epithets at the children while they were painting. I’m even more pissed that town authorities caved and ordered the large figure to be repainted so it looks white. The town father who ordered this done said he only wanted to get more light into the picture. Yeah, and I’m Elizabeth Taylor.
The only good thing about this is that kids of color have learned a lesson that they will need in life to survive until all the racists have angered themselves into high blood pressure and hopefully, strokes. (My sainted mother is rolling in her grave that I’d wish bodily harm on anyone. Sorry Mom, these racist assholes deserve everything bad that the world can dish out to them).
Racists are like cockroaches–they usually scurry around at night, living off the leavings of actual human beings. Some folks think Obama’s election brought the racists out of their dark cupboards. I think they are coming out in Arizona because they feel authorized by the passage of HB 1070 and the 51% support it supposedly enjoys.
I’m generally opposed to the use of pesticides. But I’d buy a product that Gets Rid of Racists Quick.
Blegh.
This is the one more thing for me. All that’s happening in AZ has pissed me off, and this thing is the tipping point. Mr. Desert called the city councilman/radio blow hard and told him we’d do everything in our power to make sure he and others like him are defeated.
I don’t yet know what all that “everything” includes, but I’m beyond apologizing for wishing bodily harm. These folks don’t give a shit about who they hurt; even children are fair game.
I wrote my sister about this; seems she interviewed the principal for a class she’s taking in SEI (structured English immersion). The school has the highest number of SEI students in the area, and the principal who caved in to the racists is the SEI director for the district. I’ve written him a letter, and I plan to find out what businesses advertise on the city councilman/radio racist’s program and write them.
I was reading a post by Chris in Paris on America.blog, and he’s reported that French minister has been fined for making an obvious racist remark. I think we should do that here; the amount of the fine doesn’t really matter to me, but let’s put the offense on the offender’s record. Let’s add making them stand at a busy intersection with a sign that says “I’m a racist” to the punishment. Hell, if citizens in AZ can turn law enforcement in for not arresting persons suspected of immigration violations, they ought to be able to turn in racists as well.
